Vacation in Historic Jefferson, Texas Before School Starts!

Posted on: July 27th, 2010 by Delta Street Inn

Visit historical Jefferson, Texas before summer slips away! Feel as though you have travelled far away in just the time of a short drive.

Once the premier port city to the southwest, Jefferson bathes you in Civil War era history and architechture of the deep south and New Orleans. You will feel as if you have travelled much farther than the short drive that takes you almost beyond the piney woods of East Texas.

Adventure awaits you. Great selection of bed and breakfast inns (B&B’s), restaurants galore, unique shopping and a wide array of attractions. Carriage rides, steam train, Big Cypress Bayou boat tours, ghost walk, home tours, soda fountains, history museum, car museum, lake activities at Lake O’ the Pines and boat tours on Caddo Lake…one a wood-fired, steam-driven paddle wheel boat reminiscent of Jefferson’s port city hay day. Refresh yourself with a cold, hand squeezed limeade.

Last minute trips are fun and restful lodging awaits you at comfortable B&B’s like Delta Street Inn. See www.deltastreetinn.com and book your stay now! Or call toll-free 1-877-665-2929 today.

Jefferson, Texas Persons In Character Debut July 3

Posted on: July 2nd, 2010 by Delta Street Inn

Riverport Ambassadors of Jefferson, Texas introduce “persons in character” at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 in downtown Jefferson. Members in period costumes recreate the Golden Era of Jefferson during the Civil War, bringing mid-1800′s history to life.

Meet the band of merry characters under the trees in front of First National Bank at the corner of Polk and Lafayette. Look for Civil War heroes, scalawags, railroad tycoons, clerks, church ladies or steamboat captains.

Riverport Ambassadors was created by a group of volunteers interested in enhancing the “Riverport Experience” by having fun, dressing in period costume and interacting one-on -one with guests and visitors. Their mission is to promote tourism, support businesses and interpret the colorful history of Jefferson.

Jefferson is nestled in the heart of the Piney Woods of East Texas and seems frozen in a simpler time; a time of charm and elegance. More than 100 buildings and homes have historical markers. Many are bed and breakfst inns. Others are museums, craft and antique shops and restaurants.

Come see history brought to life!
